Georgia Baptist Women’s Spring Event

Kandi Gallaty

Kandi Gallaty is a pastor’s wife, a mother of two precious boys (Rig and Ryder), a speaker, and a writer who is devoted to making disciples by cultivating a passion in women for God’s Word. She and her husband, Robby, coauthored Foundations, and together they lead Replicate Ministries, a ministry that educates, equips, and empowers believers to make disciples who make disciples. Kandi has also written DiscipleHer and her latest Bible study, The Bible in a Year. Kandi and her family live outside of Nashville, Tennessee, and serve at their church, Long Hollow Baptist Church.

Rhon Carter

Rhon Carter, Worship and Music Catalyst for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, has been serving the local church in music ministry since he was a young boy. The Lord called him into full time music ministry while pursuing a degree in hospital administration. Rhon followed that call and acquired a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance with a minor in piano from Brewton-Parker College. It was there that he met his wife, Vickki. They are blessed with a son, Barhon. God has allowed Rhon to serve several great Baptist churches with tremendous pastors. He desires to help all Georgia Baptist churches take next steps to fulfill the Great Commission no matter size, style or structure.

Women in the Missionary Task

Jonathan and Rebecca

From the frontlines of ministry in South Asia, join IMB workers to hear their story of calling overseas, learn how the God is moving, and how women can be involved in praying for and working among the lost in this region.

Bio

Jonathan and Rebecca serve as full-time workers in an area with a population of about 38 million people where less than one percent are Christian. Until the past few months their family was the only missionary family serving to reach the Magahi speaking peoples. They have spent the last few months training journeymen to carry on the work while they are in the States reconnecting with family and sharing about their work.

Mental Health and the Church

Too often people struggling with mental illness do so alone, without the love and support of a caring community. Research shows 65 percent of churchgoing family members of those with mental illness want their church to talk openly about mental illness. Learn practical ways to love and support families impacted by mental illness.

Bio

Natalie Ford lives in the North Georgia Mountains with her husband, Jeff. Dr. Ford teaches at Truett McConnell University and is a counselor at Northeast Georgia Christian Counseling. She has written three books, Tears to Joy, Seeking Answers, Finding Peace, and Grace-based Counseling. You can learn more about Dr. Ford at her website, drfordwrites.com.

As Jesus Cared for Women: A discussion of discovery about abuse and care from Christ’s model of ministry

We hear daily about someone being abused or someone revealing their abuse in our churches and communities. We worry about our children’s safety from the prospect of abuse. We ourselves may have walked that road and struggle with its effects on our lives. What do we do and how can we be proactive to protect and care for the abused? What do we need to be aware of and how do we respond well in our relationships and families? Join our discussion on this most important topic as Christian women.

Bio

Dawn has served as the Women’s Minister at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL, since 1998. She works to equip women to become global impacting disciples of Christ and disciple making leaders. Her focus is on equipping and training women’s small group leaders and designing clear paths for unconnected women to connect to these small group communities. Dawn grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Samford University with a degree in Business Administration. She has been married to Greg for 30+ years and they have one son, Tyler. She enjoys traveling, scrapbooking, and reading!

Let’s face it, lost people are not knocking our church doors down trying to get in. They’re out there where we do life, in our path, every day. The great commission commands us to make disciples, sharing Jesus as we go. Come learn creative ways to do just that.

Linda Cooper is a wife, Mom, and best of all, Gigi! Linda and her husband Jim have 2 grown children who have blessed them with 5 and soon to be 6 grandstinkers!! She is still enjoying being a dental hygienist sharing Jesus as she goes. Linda currently serves as the president of Kentucky WMU.

Loving God by Liking your Bible

We all are women who long to love God, but oftentimes find ourselves stuck in our Bible reading – finding little enjoyment in something that is such a struggle. We will take a look at how to know and love God through the understanding of His Word when we have the right tools in place.

Lizzie Attaway is a wife, mom, and Bible teacher local to Georgia. She received her Biblical Studies degree from Liberty University. Her delight is found in digging into God’s Word for profound yet practical truth, and bringing women along with her. Piercing the Darkness: Prayer for the Hard Places

In 2023, Georgia Baptist Women will launch a new prayer partnership for an unreached people group in South Asia. This means there is no known believer in the people group. Together, our prayers can pierce the darkness for a gospel light to shine among the people! Serving alongside IMB workers and Georgia natives, you and the women of your church can directly impact the spread of the gospel through prayer. During our session you will gain an understanding of the people group, experience their culture, and learn how to connect to the prayer network.

Changing Lives One Third Grader at a Time

Belinda Harris
Georgia Baptist Literacy Missions Team

Read Georgia, an initiative of Mission Georgia, is enabling churches to partner with local schools, serving children in their quest to become good readers through sight word practice. A willing heart and one hour per week can change a child’s life. Join Belinda to learn more about childhood literacy and the free Read Georgia resources.

Bio

Belinda Harris has been a Tutoring Children and Youth workshop leader for over 25 years and assisted in the development of Read Georgia, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board’s resource that is connecting churches and schools in an effort to help 3^rd graders learn to read. Belinda was employed as a teacher in the Fulton County Schools for 30 years full-time and four years part-time. During these years she worked as a classroom teacher, Teacher Support Specialist, English Language Arts coach, writing coach and Early Intervention Program teacher. Belinda currently serves as the Childhood Literacy Mobilizer for Mission Georgia.

Join Theresa and discover the wide age range of widows in your church, how they feel, and what they need. Explore practical ways to let them know they are loved, not forgotten, and needed in the church.

Bio

Theresa met and fell in love with Jesus at the age of 26 and met her husband three years later in the singles ministry at their church. The Lord called him home in 2018, leaving her to figure out how to start life over again at the age of 50. Theresa would love to share her story with you, and all the widows she has met, since taking on the title of widow. Theresa is a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and serves at the Georgia Baptist Mission Board as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer.

Marriage is a gift God has given to many of us. No matter how long we have been married, there is always room for us to grow in our relationship with one another. Marriage is not hard when we are paying attention to ways we can grow closer together. We will explore practical ways to build a dynamic marriage.

Mary has been married to Frank for 36 years and is the pastor’s wife at North Metro Baptist Church in Lawrenceville. She has served North Metro as the Women’s Ministry Director for over 30 years. Mary has two sons and daughters-in-law and one daughter and son-in-law, five grandchildren, and one on the way!

Parenting: A Reflection of God’s Heart/Restoration from Depression

Our past upbringing, unresolved issues, our own parents’ values, and popular psychology is often reflected in the way we parent. When we hit a wall and feel lost with our children and our own mental health issues, where do we look to find the answers? We will talk about the Best Parent and Healer, our source of wisdom and guidance.

Bio

Dr. Sym is a licensed marriage and family therapist in North Carolina, serves as an adjunct professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and is a pastor’s wife. She graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary MFT MS; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary MA in Theological Studies; and Fuller Theological Seminary PH. D (MFT).

Mission Project: Childhood Literacy

Join us for a variety of hands-on activities to pray, pack books, fill bookbags, and more that will help children in Georgia learn to read! Details on books and items to collect coming soon. Friday, April 21. Drop in anytime between 3 – 5 p.m. to participate.

Mission Georgia Loves Childhood Literacy Backpack Project

Our Goal
- Collect 1,800 books appropriate for children in grades K-3
- Assemble 600 Mission Georgia Loves Literacy Backpacks
Why Childhood Literacy Backpack Project?

Even though there are excellent school systems and dedicated teachers throughout our state, many young children are struggling to learn how to read. We are continuing to see the effects on learning from being home through the pandemic. We have an opportunity to support teachers, tutors, and literacy volunteers as they invest in young readers. We want the church to be the first place the community turns to for help…including help for reading!
How do I participate?
What do I do when I arrive?
- On Friday, April 21, drop in from 3pm – 5pm in the Children’s Worship Center.
- Bring your books to the Children’s Worship Center and place them in the age-appropriate bin.
- There will be stations for sorting books, assembling backpacks, writing notes to tutors and teachers, and opportunities to learn from some Georgia Baptists actively involved in Read Georgia and childhood literacy.
- We will pray over these backpacks together in the Missions Celebration Service!
